yes thanks for this explanation....I used to think the whole thing was stupid, because who was going to vote no in front of the cong
But now I see why its done
...why american jw's sometimes pretend to follow robert's rules of order at the congregational level?
this usually has to do with matters of money.
a resolution will be introduced, a motion made, seconded and voted on, say to to embark on a remodel project for example.

does anyone remember the program in the late 70's early 80s that called for children of jws who tho unbaptised did things they felt merited dfing to be treated "as disfellowshipped"?
perhaps some with the references could post material.
a lot of elders including my father had a problem with it but enforced it nontheless.
I do remember this....The policy no longer exists. I do remember an elder who had resign because his daughter even though not baptized and no longer living with him was living "in sin" That announcement was made about her...
My grandparents from my father side were first cousins...
.
really sorry if this is posted elsewhere - but i had to point out that very recently valis made the extremely exclusive 10000 club -- so it is now simon, minimus and valis -- - wonderful -.
congratulations and may jehovah reward you with many glasses of bourbon or whatever your favorite drink is
Congrats Valis!!
it struck me that, for all the emphasis they put on evangelism and public preaching, the borg's leaders are actually a reclusive, shadowy lot.
the only large audiences they will address are their own members, they rarely grant interviews and never seek opportunities to lead by preaching their message in a public or media forum.
quite the contrary; in the one instance where jaracz made an appearanace (cornered by a bbc reporter), he came across as combative, and mean-spirited hardly as a spiritual leader of six million-plus.
I never thought of that, and you are absolutely right....they are never seen.
just out of the jws i had a town house i rented.
i was moving into another home and the landlord was scum.
when i moved he charged me for every little thing which was already broken or malfunctioning when i moved in and also charged me for hairline cracks in a 50 year old porcine bathtubs and sinks ( which already existed prior to my move in) the list goes on and on.
Awesome revenge...
Must remember!!!
.
a jw once told me apostates print their "own" version of the publications with "convincing" covers to "trick" people - apparently they used to stand outside a shop in sheffield and jws had almost taken literature from them.. has this got any truth to it at all?
i'd have thought most self-published apostate literature would be photocopied leaflets.. other than the brilliant photoshopped spoof covers people post of course!
LMAO!!!
Hilarious
i think jws will be around forever.
i do believe they will, as time goes on, lose many or most of their members.
but i do think that there will always be some around to continue the religion....maybe years from now they'll become more mainstream, i don't know.
I think it will be around for a long time...they have a strong grip on alot of people
i told my husband that i'm pretty sure i wasn't allowed to play with these when i was younger but i can't remember the reasoning behind it?
was it because they had special powers?
or was it because one of them had a four leaf clover on him?
I knew of a family that did that too...threw the little boys entire Disney collection....he cried his eyes out!!
unbelieveable
Thank God, sounds like a busy week
Hope you enjoy your 4th
